How I Made Beautiful Art Using a Drop Cloth

The more I work on revamping my home, the more I find myself growing into my design style. I love working with my hands, re-purposing, and bringing old items new life. Each day I find myself searching places like Pinterest finding new inspiration. This time I came across a unique project: DIY Canvas Art. This project consists of making an abstract art piece by only using a painter’s canvas cloth, a frame, and creativity. Since I needed to fill in space on the wall in my front room anyway, I figured that this would be something cool to try.

Materials:

A couple of the materials needed for the project.
  • Old Unused Frame (Any size that you are comfortable with.)
  • Painters Canvas Cloth (5×5 Small Project Cloth)
  • Staples and a Stapler (Heavy Duty)
  • Paint Brushes (Chip Brushes would be fine)
  • Leftover Interior Paint
  • Duct Tape
  • Polycrylic (Spray can)

Instructions

Separate the frame and place the front piece to the side.

Stretch the canvas over the frame.

While the canvas is sitting up right or while still on the ground, start stapling the cloth onto the frame. Once you complete the stapling, cut all of the access fabric off and place it to the side.

Paint you canvas background the color you like. I went with a neutral grey.

Allow it to dry for at least 30 minutes to and hour.

Once dry, use duct tape to create your desired design (or freestyle :-)).

Paint away and add your desired color.

Allow at least 30 mins to dry then remove the tape. Continue to let the piece dry until the paint does not come off by touch.

Once it is dry, spray the Polycrilic on as a finish. Make sure that you are in a well-ventilated area. Allow it to dry for up to 24 hours.

Once the piece is completely dry, place the front part of the frame back on, secure it, and hang it up!

Congratulations, you have created a beautiful piece, and it looks marvelous!
